THE MEN`S CHOIR OF THE MOSCOW PATRIARCH.
The menТs choir of the Moscow Patriarch, which was founded in 1987 with the blessing of Metropolitan Pitirim of Volokolamsk and Yuryev (1926Ц2003), is legendary as the oldest professional sacred music menТs choirs established in the history of new Russia. The choir participates regularly in various competitions and events, including the events dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the Christianization of Russia, the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the Russian Patriarchate, celebrations of Slavic literature and culture, festivals and concert tours in many countries. The choir performs at the Moscow Conservatory, the Bolshoi Theatre and the national Tretyakov Gallery.
All the singers in the choir are the highest quality professional singers, including graduates of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, the Moscow Academy of Choral Arts, the Moscow State Conservatory, as well as the A. V. Sveshnikov Academy of Choral Arts, which gives you an idea of the spirituality and power of the choir.
The permanent regent of the choir is celibate priest Ambrosius (Nosov), a professional choral conductor, organiser and conductor of many church choirs, and the author of many arrangements and rearrangements of church music. He has been a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church since 1988 (a celibate deacon, and since 1989, a celibate priest).
The choirТs concert programme is comprised of the most outstanding examples of Orthodox music and provides the listeners with a complete picture of the development of Russian sacred music. The choirТs repertoire includes songs for one voice that have been found in old manuscripts, early partes style songs for several voices, songs from such internationally renowned monasteries as the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, Optina Pustyn and many other monasteries, as well as the works of composers from the 18th to 20th century, such as Rachmaninoff, Bortniansky, Tchaikovsky, Rimski-Korsakov, Glinka and others.
The choirТs presentation style is a unique mixture of authentic interpretation and technical and artistic mastery. The choirТs singing during the church service seems like a prayer and is beloved by the members of the congregation. At their concerts, the choir has enjoyed unabated public acclaim.
